Motivation

In a business, employees will work better when they're motivated. But what actually makes the employees motivated? How does Melvin Elias motivate his employees? 

Money is often the motivation of being hardworking, for most of us. Employees working in the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf stores have a lot of financial privileges. 

They received free beverages, bag of coffee and product discounts. During their shift, team members are awarded with a cup of coffee or tea.


During their non-working hours, they can get a 33% discount on all beverages in Coffee Bean. The company also offers an affordable medical and dental health care plan. It includes hospitalization, check-ups and doctor visits. A retirement plan is also offered to help the team members, with the minimum amount of 401k. All of these privileges are categorized in fringe benefits

Also, after a year of employment and with at least 1000 hours of work, team members in the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf are allowed to join the profit sharing plan. With all these financial awards, I'm sure that employees will contribute better for the company. 

Melvin Elias also gave his employees on non-financial awards. They're awarded with vacation time, which is calculated based on the average numbers of hours work per week throughout the year. Employees will work hard if they want a long vacation. Four days of sick leave in a year is given to full-time workers after their 90 days of employment. These workers are also given the privilege of 3 continuous days of funeral leave, where salary is PAID. 

Last but not least, Melvin Elias often writes thank-you letter to the employees working overseas. Although it might be nothing, but we shouldn't neglect the effort that Melvin Elias put in. He thanked all the employees from the bottom of his heart.

 “Happy, inspired, engaged team members will work their hardest for the business; they will be more creative, they will be more personable, and they will give a better customer experience,” 

 “And if you give a better customer experience, you’ll get better sales.” - said Melvin Elias.

This is how Melvin Elias leads, and it's his way of motivating his employees.

  1. The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf company has used all possible ways to motivate their employees. Both financial and non-financial awards are given to the employees. If I'm one of the team member, I will work even harder when there are so many privileges.

    I was really impressed by Melvin Elias. He is a good leader as he put in effort in writing thank you letters to his employees overseas. Despite the amount of workers he has overseas, he still affirmed his workers through this simple yet meaningful way.
